Design Philosophy
Gardening since the age of 5, Richard's designs are informed by more than 40 years of accumulated gardening knowledge and know-how. Having created gardens for his homes and drawing designs for friends & family; and after a 25 year career in Banking and I.T, with many years working in the City; Richard took the decision to follow his dream of a career in horticulture. Richard was accepted for the Post Graduate Diploma course at the internationally renowned Oxford College of Garden Design studying under leading international designer Duncan Heather. Since graduating with Merit, Richard has established a Design Studio in the Midlands practicing throughout the UK. Whilst establishing the business Richard also worked as Head Gardener at a large Midlands garden. Richard is a Graduate Member of the Society of Garden Designers.
Richard believes that House, Garden and Client should live in harmony with each other; the garden?s style reflecting both the architecture of the house and the style and tastes of the client. The emphasis is on plants - used structurally and decoratively to create style and mood; hard materials should be used with restraint and purpose, and harmonize with their architectural and natural surroundings.Richard favours simplicity and restraint in design, endeavouring not to over-design.
